Sr Software Engineer - Disney Cruise Line
“We Power the Magic!” That’s our motto at Disney Experiences (DX). Our team creates world-class immersive digital experiences for the Company’s premier vacation brands including Disney’s Parks & Resorts worldwide, Disney Cruise Line, Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, and Disney Vacation Club.
We are responsible for the end-to-end digital and physical Guest experience for all technology & digital-led initiatives across the Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation and Merchandise lines of business as well as other initiatives including MyDisneyExperience and Hey, Disney!
This role sits in the Disney Cruise Line SEAS (Seaware middleware services) organization within Technology & Digital for Disney Experiences. It works closely with Product Management and Engineers from across the company.
The Senior Software Engineer will report to the Manager, Technology.
About The Role & Team:
The SEAS Team supports a portfolio anchored by Versonix's Seaware Reservation System. The portfolio includes mission critical middleware, applications, scheduled jobs and reporting. SEAS currently services Disney Cruise Line (DCL) and Adventures by Disney (ABD).
In this role you will build and support middleware services for use by DCL.com, initially enabling a major capital project and evolving into client-agnostic integrations that expose core Seaware capabilities for broader enterprise use.
What You’ll Do:
May lead small projects encompassing analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification of software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, cloud-based, or Internet-related computer programs
Responsible for performing testing and debugging of applications
Code may be used in commercial and end-user applications or focus on software and tools supporting infrastructure and technology platforms
Code at the component level
Work typically involves large or highly sophisticated software programs and systems
Possess a proven understanding of current programming language and technologies, with strong skills in writing code and completing programming tasks
Interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications
Conceive, design, develop, test, and implement software components, fixes, improvements, and/or new systems and applications
Design and develop highly scalable software systems and applications
You will be expected to stay up to date with emerging technologies
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum 5 years of related work experience
Mastery in Java and experience with industry standard opensource technologies like; Spring, Tomcat, Nginx, Elastic Search, etc. and IDEs like IntelliJ, Eclipse
Expertise designing APIs and building RESTful services
Experience developing Java services against relational databases (Oracle preferred)
Comfortable working in an agile environment and experience with Agile Delivery (Stand Ups, Sprint Planning, etc)
Proficiency in Software Engineering principals, with a proactive demeanor towards continuous learning and skill development
Experience with full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, documentation, etc.
Experience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins/Gitlab/Harness CICD and Docker
Experience with monitoring and logging tools including but not limited to Grafana, App Dynamics and Splunk
Experience with performance tuning
Experience working with cloud platforms and container orchestration technologies, including AWS, Kubernetes, and Rancher
Able to work well with external partners and contractors.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience creating, modifying, and troubleshooting Oracle PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, and function
Familiarity with event-driven and messaging architectures (e.g., Kafka, SNS/SQS, JMS, or similar)
Experience with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, Kong, Mulesoft, or similar)
Knowledge of security best practices for APIs and distributed systems, including OAuth, JWT, TLS, and secrets management
Experience supporting large-scale production systems, including incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvements
Exposure to infrastructure as code and cloud provisioning tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Helm)
Experience mentoring junior developers and acting as a technical thought partner within a team
Experience collaborating with product, architecture, and platform teams to translate requirements into technical solutions that meet Company and architectural standards
Prior experience contributing to capital projects or large transformation initiatives
Required Education:
Bachelor's or foreign equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
Preferred Education:
Master’s or foreign equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering
