Microsoft Corporation has an immediate opening for a Principal Corporate Counsel on the telecom regulatory team that will provide counsel on telecom and related laws around the world for a wide variety of Microsoft services and facilities, including those under development. The position is part of the Customer Security & Trust group in the Microsoft Global Affairs division of the Corporate, External and Legal Affairs Department, and will be based in Redmond, WA. The person filling the position will be expected to work from the office 4 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Analyzing new and proposed telecom regulations that impact existing and planned Microsoft products, services, and facilities
- Providing advice to internal business teams to enable compliance with telecom-related laws and regulations
- Supporting a complex program to ensure Microsoft products and services remain in compliance with applicable regulations imposed by telecom regulators around the world
- Developing and promoting Microsoft’s telecom policy positions
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 4+ years experience as a practicing attorney in a regulatory environment, in a law firm, government agency, or a large enterprise.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
Additional or preferred qualifications
- Experience with telecommunications regulation
- Analytical, written and verbal communications skills
- Prefer specific experience with regulation of traditional telecom services (numbers-based telephony, SMS), IP-enabled services (e.g., VoIP, messaging), and/or telecommunications facilities (e.g., submarine cables and terrestrial fiber)
- Prefer experience with developing or managing a company’s compliance with applicable telecom regulations
- Prefer experience with both U.S. and non-U.S. telecommunications laws
- Prefer experience with telecom-specific laws relating to privacy, wiretap, and/or cybersecurity
- A self-starter with a can-do attitude, and a bias for action
- Ability to solve problems with a focus on achieving results that benefit our business as well as the businesses of our customers and partners
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex, highly matrixed environment interfacing with a variety of personalities across a large number of diverse internal groups, teams, divisions, and cultures
- Familiarity with and passion for technology and technology-related issues
Legal Counsel IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $132,200 - $232,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,800 - $248,600 per year.
