Overview

The Data & Sovereign Cloud Solution Engineer proactively engages with customers to design and drive trusted, sovereign, and datacentric cloud architectures.
Leveraging deep expertise in data platforms, analytics, AI/ML workloads, and cloud infrastructure, the engineer builds technical credibility with customers operating in regulated and datasensitive environments (public sector, critical industries, regulated enterprises).

This role leads technical discussions around data platforms and architectures, establishes engagement models across extended teams, and acts as a trusted technical advisor in partner and ecosystem scenarios.
The Solution Engineer plays a key role in enabling sovereign cloud adoption, ensuring data residency, compliance, security, and isolation requirements are met while unlocking innovation through Microsoft’s cloud and data services.

By capturing competitive insights on data platforms, sovereign cloud offerings, and regulatory constraints, and collaborating closely with product and engineering teams, the engineer contributes to solution strategy and accountlevel technical wins.

Responsibilities

Build Strategy & Trusted Data Architectures

  • Collaborate with account teams to define data and cloud sovereignty strategies aligned with customer regulatory, security, and compliance requirements.

  • Shape technical win plans around data platforms, analytics, AI/ML, and dataintensive workloads in sovereign or regulated cloud contexts.

  • Tailor Microsoft messaging on trusted cloud, data residency, and compliance using customer feedback and competitive landscape insights.

  • Share competitive intelligence on data platforms and sovereign cloud solutions with product and engineering teams to influence roadmap and positioning.

Technical Enablement & Continuous Learning

  • Actively contribute to internal data and cloud communities; attend technical sessions, architecture reviews, and hackathons.

  • Maintain and execute a personal readiness plan to stay current on data platform innovations, analytics, AI, and sovereign cloud architectures.

  • Mentor peers and demonstrate new data, analytics, and cloud platform capabilities to internal teams.

Partner & Ecosystem Engagement

  • Identify partner capability gaps related to data engineering, analytics platforms, and sovereign cloud implementations.

  • Act as a technical liaison in sellwith and cobuild partner scenarios, ensuring architectural alignment and compliance with sovereignty requirements.

  • Support partner technical readiness for datacentric and regulated customer engagements.

Scale Customer Engagements

  • Proactively engage customers to lead data architecture and cloud design discussions, from early strategy to technical decision points.

  • Leverage Microsoft resources (Innovation Hub, demos, architecture assets) to unblock and accelerate customer data initiatives.

  • Establish clear rules of engagement across extended technical teams to support complex, multiworkload data scenarios.

Solution Design & Proof

  • Design and present endtoend data architectures (Lakehouse, analytics, AI/ML pipelines) running on trusted and sovereign cloud environments.

  • Drive crossworkload alignment across data, infrastructure, security, and application teams.

  • Lead or oversee architecture design workshops and selected proof of concept (POC) engagements for dataintensive workloads.

  • Validate architectures against data residency, security, compliance, and isolation requirements.

Qualifications
  • Data Platform & Architecture Expertise: Strong understanding of modern data platforms (data lakes, lakehouse, analytics, AI/ML workloads).

  • Cloud & Sovereignty Advisory: Ability to guide customers through cloud adoption in regulated and sovereign contexts.

  • Consultative Technical Selling: Understand business and regulatory needs before proposing architectures.

  • Technical Communication: Clearly articulate complex data and cloud concepts to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

  • Competitive Analysis: Evaluate competing data and cloud solutions, particularly in sovereign and regulated markets.

  • Stakeholder Management: Build trusted relationships with customer architects, security, compliance, and IT leaders.

  • Problem Solving & Analytical Thinking: Analyze complex data and infrastructure challenges and design scalable solutions.

  • Presentation & Storytelling: Communicate value through architecture narratives and datadriven use cases.

Preferred / Additional Skills

  • Data Engineering or Cloud Architecture background

  • Experience with regulated industries or public sector customers

  • Sovereign cloud, data residency, and compliance frameworks

  • Security and identity concepts applied to data platforms

  • Technical sales and solution design leadership

  • Proof of Concept (POC) execution for data workloads

  • Readiness for largescale data platform deployments
