At Microsoft AI, we are redefining what’s possible with data and AI at global scale. We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer (SSE) to help design and build the next generation of bigdata and AIdriven platforms and services.
Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own and deliver endtoend features across largescale data and AI systems. You will work closely with Applied Researchers, Program Managers and Architects to turn ambiguous problem spaces into reliable, secure, and scalable product capabilities.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
- Drive solutions for ambiguous, unscoped problems, defining success metrics and executing effectively under uncertainty.
- Design, build, and operate largescale distributed data systems using technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, MapReduce, or equivalent platforms.
- Implement statistical analysis and data pipelines using SQL, Python, R, or similar languages in bigdata environments.
- Own features endtoend, including design, architecture, implementation, testing, debugging, deployment, and livesite operations.
- Lead design and code reviews, ensuring high standards of quality, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Partner with Program Managers, Architects, and business stakeholders on workforce planning, demand planning, and holistic service design.
- Apply strong DevOps and operational excellence practices with a deep focus on livesite health and reliability.
- Ensure solutions meet security, privacy, accessibility, GDPR, and compliance requirements while scaling efficiently.
- Stay current with industry trends and apply best practices in scalability, performance, and secure system design.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to reason at scale.
- Experience building and operating production services in distributed or bigdata environments.
- Solid understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and operational readiness.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and research teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence design and execution across teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on dataintensive or AI/MLdriven systems.
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
