Overview

Microsoft’s Windows Servicing & Delivery Organization’s mission is to keep billions of Windows devices protected and productive by delivering a seamless and timely servicing experience. The Update Platform team is responsible for creating experiences that ship with the latest version of Windows OS, engage hundreds of millions of users, and drive update and upgrade customer satisfaction.


As the lead for the Update Platform team, you will play a key role in securing our customers while keeping a healthy Continuous Delivery experience that makes our customers love Windows. We are looking for an experienced leader that has a passion for delivering world-class designs and implementation that powers the update service. You will have the opportunity to impact every Windows user by building the core of the service. You will collaborate with other parts of the team to deliver a seamless and flexible update platform driven by control from the Cloud. You will be a meaningful part of a growing team that values diversity of thought and recognizes everyone for their personal strengths and desire to learn and grow.

Finally, you will have a wealth of data at your fingertips, provided by our Update Platform Insights team, that will help you understand how our users are interacting with our features and how we can fine tune those features to deliver a silent by default, with control by choice experience.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Engineering experience in Systems programming – operating systems, driver development or equivalent.
  • Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in object-oriented languages (C++ required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years people management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches team members within the team in producing extensible and maintainable code.
  • Coaches and supports partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within teams.
  • Coaches teams and drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Coaches team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).
  • Coaches others and acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers across products, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
