Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the CHSE (Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

We are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineering Manager to join the team.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
  • Leadership experience including recruiting, building, and managing team(s)
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in system (compute, storage, networking, and/or accelerator) level design and/or implementation across the hardware development lifecycle
  • 8+ years of experience working across multiple disciplines (hardware, firmware, software, and/or data center infrastructure) to identify risks, drive discussions, detail system tradeoffs, and assess impact
  • Experience with deploying high volume hardware production in server area
  • Experience with driving execution of hardware validation and functional test plans
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge about datacenters & operations at scale
  • Experience with high-speed and high-power products design
  • Experience developing board and system level bring-up and test plans
  • Experience debugging board and system level issues for Cloud Servers
  • Experience with hardware, firmware, management firmware, and/or software (system & application stack) interfaces across all modules in a system
  • Excellent team player

Responsibilities

  • Build and support a team of electrical engineers for server projects with ODM partners.
  • Understand customer requirements and high-level architectural design, lead electrical engineers to implement detailed design at board level and system level, responsible for electrical specifications.
  • Drive internal design collaboration among different teams (thermal, mechanical, firmware, OS), guide external partner (ODM/OEM) for detailed design execution, ensure product functionality, performance, quality and reliability.
  • Drive the implementation of design strategies with anticipated challenges, oversee and resolve process and resource gaps by identifying potential improvements.
  • Monitor project progress / status updates, lead the electrical related changes management, ensure project plan execution within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Oversee team members and partner teams for definition of board level and system level bring-up plan, electrical test requirements, end-to-end validation test plans, ensure complete coverage and execution.
  • Oversee troubleshooting, issue triage, root cause analyses across teams, drive debug efforts for final resolution and FA reports.
