Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (C, C++).
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- 3 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
- 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- Experience working with operating systems, computer architecture, embedded systems and Linux/Unix kernel, etc.
- Experience with System Software in any of the following areas - ARM/ARM64 architecture, compilers, firmware, Operating systems, Linux kernel, filesystems / storage, device drivers, performance tuning, networking, tools, tests, virtualization, platform libraries, etc.
- Experience with coding in Rust.

In this role, you will pioneer, develop, and build out the footprint in consumer hardware or software. You will contribute to the core of Android. You will work on variety of open source projects including the Linux kernel, Android operating system, and build the future of Android together with the large partner ecosystem.
You will work on areas such as memory management, performance, virtualization, storage, filesystems, IPC, AI, and systems software. You will be contributing to Android's longevity, updatability, security, and quality while working alongside leading domain experts from many areas. You will work on the foundations of the Android operating system and naturally collaborate with numerous Android teams within and outside of Google across the globe.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Write and test product or system development code.
- Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product or program updates and user feedback.
- Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
