About the Role & Program

Walt Disney Imagineering is the creative force that imagines, designs and brings to life all Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions and cruise ships worldwide. Working across a spectrum of teams that range from creative and conceptual to scientific and technical, we blend an innovative mixture of storytelling, art, science and technology to create immersive experiences, memorable destinations, and innovative entertainment for families around the globe!

The approximate dates of this internship is January 2025 to May/June 2025.

What You Will Do

We are looking for a Sustainable Design & Engineering intern to join the Walt Disney Imagineering Sustainability team. As an intern on the team you will have the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop sustainability ideas for the built environment
  • Work with project teams across the global portfolios to assist with analyzing and integrating sustainable design opportunities to minimize environmental impact
  • Coordinate with master planning on resort-wide sustainability opportunities
  • Assist in collecting, documenting, and maintaining project data as it relates to emissions, water, construction waste and/or embodied carbon of building materials
  • Contribute to brainstorming/creative sessions to help advance sustainability initiatives on assigned projects
  • Actively encourage a culture of sustainability within Walt Disney Imagineering
  • Participate in events focused on environmental sustainability across The Walt Disney Company

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Basic comprehension of and passion for sustainable design principles, life cycle thinking, and the multi-disciplinary nature of sustainability
  • Willingness to perform research and conduct assessments of alternative environmental materials and/or systems and experiment creatively to find sustainable solutions
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new software tools
  • Effective written, oral, and graphic communication skills
  • Ability to create effective presentations and deliver them to diverse audiences with differing communication styles and backgrounds
  • Experience working with collaborative teams and completing project deliverables
  • Self-starter with positive attitude and strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using 3D modeling software (e.g. SketchUp, SolidWorks, Revit, AutoCAD)
  • Experience using either of the following: Energy modeling software (e.g. IESVE, TRACE, EnergyPro, eQuest, or EnergyGauge) or Embodied carbon calculators (e.g. EC3, Tally, oneclickLCA, or Athena)
  • Familiarity with green building rating systems (e.g. LEED, BREEAM, China Three Star (GBEL))
  • Familiarity with environmental life-cycle assessments (LCA) or financial life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)

Education

Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher, or graduated within the past 6 months, from an accredited college/university, in a degree majoring in any of the following: architecture, engineering (mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, or environmental), construction management, environmental design, environmental science, environmental/sustainability studies or a related field.

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Glendale, CA area
  • Have reliable transportation to/from work

The pay rate for this role in California is $30 per hour for undergraduate students and $35 per hour for graduate level students.
