Position Overview:

The Communications Associate works closely with staff, technical experts, executive and project leadership, new business teams, and communications stakeholders in the U.S. Government Business Line to support Chemonics’ external communications and outreach goals. The associate writes and coordinates high-quality content for Chemonics' and external outlets, ensuring adherence to Client and Chemonics’ Style Guide, tools, and templates; promotes our work on social media and through various mediums such as blogs, videos, and photography; and supports technical and project communications as needed. The associate may mentor interns. This role requires work in our Washington, DC office location as part of our hybrid, flexible work structure. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs administrative tasks such as maintaining department inventory of promotional products and marketing documents, scheduling relevant meetings and drafting meeting agendas/notes, backstopping contracts, submitting invoices for payment, coordinating with vendors, maintaining SharePoint files for the team, updating communications tools such as CoSchedule, and supporting relevant procurements.
  • Identifies, researches, and writes/develops strategic and engaging content for target audiences on Chemonics' and external outlets, including the company’s website, social media, industry forums, and mainstream news outlets. Provides light copyediting support and liaises with editorial department for more in-depth reviews.
  • Provides end-to-end communications support for staff participation in events, conferences, and other forums, from strategic planning to internal and external outreach and logistics before, during, and after the event.
  • Drafts content and strategy for social media outlets including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, and Flickr; provides social media training and guidance to staff; manages weekly social media calendar on HootSuite and Amplify and coordinates with other corporate communications teams on scheduling posts. Tracks metrics on an ongoing basis.
  • Supports business development efforts for the Business Line and throughout the company as needed.
  • Mentors and may supervise interns.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in communications, marketing, international development, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience; experience in the field of communications or international development preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to speak clearly and concisely and write for diverse audiences; strong cross-cultural communication and sensitivity skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle routine administrative tasks and operational issues.
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • Ability to review and edit technical content written by staff around the world.
  • Ability to identify useful content and propose using this content in a variety of communications outlets.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure with diverse teams and manage production schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standard practices and procedures, receive general instruction and supervision, and contribute to projects and initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem solving and initiative to learn new skills.
  • Working knowledge of uses and administration of popular social media outlets (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and SharePoint; knowledge of WordPress and Hootsuite preferred.
  • Fluent English required; proficiency in a foreign language preferred but not required
