The role will provide legal coverage to the EMEA Currencies and Emerging Markets business and the EMEA Rates business. The emerging markets coverage will involve work on a broad range of transactions including emerging market financings in a variety of formats (e.g. structured repo, repo-to-maturity and total return swap format), Shariah-compliant derivatives and transactions referencing cryptocurrency, while the Rates coverage will involve transactions such as deal contingent transactions, physical and synthetic risk transfers and the hedging of RMBS, CLOs, WBS and other financing structures.

As a Vice president within EMEA Markets Legal Practice Group you will have the opportunity to advise on a range of transactions across the emerging markets and rates derivatives space, providing advice on complex legal and regulatory issues and partnering closely with the business to structure and negotiate transactions across a variety of jurisdictions. The team is highly technical and this rewarding role offers a great opportunity to work with a highly innovative, market leading business on cutting edge transactions. Whilst the role is primarily transactional, members of the team are expected to have knowledge of UK and European derivatives law and regulation, and the coverage of the Rates business involves substantive regulatory advisory work (e.g. relating to MiFID II, EMIR, BMR, the Global FX Code, FMSB Standards and IOSCO Principles).

Job Responsibilities

  • Providing general legal support and advice to the business.

  • Working closely with the business from inception to the close of transactions, including reviewing, negotiating and sometimes drafting transaction documentation.

  • Identifying, raising and working to solve legal and regulatory issues affecting the business.

  • Developing and managing relationships with external counsel in various jurisdictions and working closely with external counsel on those transactions for which they are engaged.

  • Liaising with legal colleagues in other jurisdictions on cross-border transactions and with Compliance and other internal risk and control functions.

  • Assisting and advising the business and colleagues in the Legal Department on regulatory change and implementation affecting the businesses we support.

  • Driving process, documentation and efficiency improvements across the various areas of coverage.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • is licensed to practice law in England & Wales or a similar jurisdiction
  • PQE in the derivatives/finance space with strong drafting skills and a familiarity with ISDA documentation
  • has an ability to understand complex structures
  • has good judgement and is able to identify risks and issues and escalate where appropriate
  • is confident, proactive and would enjoy working closely with Sales, Trading and other internal control functions
  • has strong organisational and communication skills and an ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • has a strong interest in transactional work and the ability to oversee multiple transactions simultaneously
