Lead industrial design strategy for Amazon's Personal Robotics Group, shaping the future of human-robot hardware experiences. Drive design excellence at the intersection of AI and physical robotics, creating next-generation products that seamlessly integrate intelligent systems with embodied agents. Partnering directly with Director+ leadership, you'll set new vision and standards for how people connect with robotic technology in their daily lives.
Key job responsibilities
• Drive design excellence from concept to launch, working within a multi-disciplinary team of UX researchers, designers, product managers, engineers, and scientists to develop product experiences and functional prototypes
• Establish design frameworks and lead design reviews that incorporate market analysis, customer feedback, and human-robot interaction insights to ensure cohesive experiences across physical and digital touchpoints
• Create designs using 2D, 3D, and AI tools that balance safety, product appeal, functionality, and manufacturability, while influencing architecture decisions to optimize physical design within technical constraints
• Oversee design and fabrication of compelling prototypes for executive review, collaborating with hardware and software teams to push boundaries and achieve world-class design
• Partner with external agencies and vendors by writing design briefs, guiding efforts, and managing deliverables that meet quality standards, timelines, and budgets

As a Principal Industrial Designer in AI and Robotics, you'll work at the frontier of human-robot interaction, collaborating with Design and Engineering Leaders, AI and machine learning teams, and Product leaders across Amazon's robotics organization. You'll operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where you balance hands-on design work with strategic leadership, bridging the gap between cutting-edge technical capabilities and user-centered design principles. Basic Qualifications
• 15+ years of consumer industrial design experience developing and shipping innovative products
• Accomplished design portfolio demonstrating contemporary design sensibility and proficiency with 2D, 3D, motion design, and AI tools
• Experience designing advanced electro-mechanical and sensor technologies for robotics with significant user interaction
• Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes for small batch to high volume production
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including ability to communicate design concepts clearly to leadership
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple organizations and drive alignment
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment on ambiguous and challenging projects
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, OR 13+ years of equivalent professional design experience
Preferred Qualifications
• 3+ years designing AI-powered robotics and human interaction with mechatronic systems
• Experience with motion design, animation, or designing for physical movement
• Experience leading and mentoring designers
• Strong network of external resources for research, design, and fabrication capability
• Experience working with OEMs in sourced development or co-development of parts and subassemblies
• Experience defining design systems or pattern libraries spanning physical and digital experiences
• Experience using data and research to inform design decisions
• Master's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
