Corporate Counsel - MX Operations Legal, MX Ops Legal
Legal, Operations
Mexico City, Mexico
Description
Join a small, high-impact legal team that serves as the single legal function for Amazon Mexico's entire Operations business — logistics, transportation, supply chain, fulfillment, and last-mile delivery. You'll own complex legal matters end-to-end, advise senior leaders directly, and work on problems where regulations are unclear and the business needs answers fast.
- You will be the go-to lawyer for a large, fast-moving operations org. This is not a support role — you own the work, make the calls, and drive outcomes.
- The work spans commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, labor matters, government engagement, third-party logistics, and new program launches across Mexico.
- You'll need to be comfortable making decisions with limited information, calibrating risk in real time, and sometimes showing up at an operations site to handle a regulator visit in person.
- This role requires someone who understands how operations actually work on the ground, not just the legal theory, but the physical network, the programs, and the people.
- We are enablers, not gatekeepers. We help the business move fast and manage risk properly. If you default to "no" or need all the facts before taking a position, this is not the right fit.
Key job responsibilities
- Own complex legal matters end-to-end across Amazon Mexico's operations — logistics, transportation, supply chain, fulfillment, and last-mile delivery.
- Draft, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements with third-party logistics providers, carriers, and operational partners.
- Advise senior leaders on Mexican regulatory compliance (transportation, labor, customs, environmental) and help the business move fast.
- Make risk-calibrated decisions under ambiguity with limited information. Escalate fast when needed.
- Handle government and regulator interactions, including unannounced site visits — travel to operations sites on short notice when required.
- Build scalable tools (playbooks, SOPs, self-service guides) so business teams can handle routine matters independently.
- Coordinate with other legal functions (Labor & Employment, Public Policy, Trade, Real Estate) to deliver consolidated advice.
- Manage outside counsel on specific matters.
- Develop deep knowledge of how the physical operations network works to maintain business continuity and give advice grounded in reality.
A day in the life
You start the morning closing a contract with an unusual structure — you figure out where the real risk is, draft protections, and get it back to the business fast. After lunch, a regulator shows up unannounced at a warehouse. You join a call with the site leaders and guide the team through it. Later, a business team asks if a new program is legal. The regulation is vague, there's no precedent. You do a quick analysis, set guardrails, and give them the green light. No two days look the same.
About the team
MX Operations Legal is the legal function supporting Amazon Mexico's full operations business — from how products enter the country to how they reach the customer's door. We work directly with senior operations leaders across transportation, fulfillment, supply chain, and last-mile delivery. The team is small and high-impact: you won't be reviewing someone else's work. You'll own your matters, make your own calls, and see your advice turn into real outcomes. We value practical judgment, speed, autonomy, and people who can stay calm when things are messy.
