Seattle, WA, USA
Description
Join the legal team working at the intersection of environmental law and the world's fastest-growing AI infrastructure business. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is building the cloud computing and AI infrastructure that powers the next generation of technology—and our environmental legal team plays a critical role in shaping how that infrastructure gets designed, permitted, and operated around the globe.
We are seeking an experienced environmental attorney to join the AWS Legal Regulatory Risk Management & Compliance team. You will focus on environmental compliance and sustainable design of AWS's global physical infrastructure, advising a rapidly evolving business on how to bring new data centers online responsibly and at pace.
Key job responsibilities
You will be part of a collaborative, tight-knit team that counsels Amazon's data center business on a range of environmental, regulatory, and infrastructure development matters. Your work will include:
- Advising business and engineering teams on environmental requirements for new AI infrastructure, from site selection through construction and operations
- Developing and deploying AI-powered tools and technology solutions that enhance environmental compliance mechanisms at scale
- Engaging with community stakeholders, regulators, and elected officials regarding potential data center developments and data center regulations
- Shaping the environmental performance of AWS's global data center fleet through innovative compliance policies and programs
- Monitoring the regulatory landscape, advising the business on upcoming environmental changes, and crafting proactive compliance strategies
- Negotiating commercial transactions with environmental vendors and managing outside counsel
- Handling legal disputes and regulatory inquiries from national, subnational, and local agencies
A day in the life
Your day will blend strategic problem-solving with hands-on legal support for one of the most dynamic infrastructure businesses in the world. You might spend the morning advising on the environmental permitting strategy for a new campus, the afternoon collaborating with engineers on an AI tool that streamlines compliance reporting, and close the day preparing for a community engagement session. No two days look the same.
