Our vision is to build a real time, intelligent and intuitive hands off the wheel fully automated system to optimally manage capacity for Amazon’s warehouses to reliably deliver packages worldwide faster and cheaper. We are looking for a manager to help us realize this vision.

Optimally managing capacity in Amazon’s increasingly complex network of warehouses and Transportation requires innovative approaches in modeling, storing, validating, and processing data for all resources used for fulfilling customer packages in Amazon. We are looking for a candidate who will help us break down barriers and build smart and scalable systems to give Amazon customers even faster and cheaper delivery. Our technical challenges involve optimizing relational and non-relational data storage and processing systems to scale at Amazon scale evolving at Amazon speed. Get ready for SQL and NoSQL databases, distributed systems, map reduce, complex business logic, and highly-optimized multi threaded code on the edge of Java capabilities. We are looking for an manager to guide a team of engineers towards success and drive the strategic development of the product.

As a Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of motivated engineers in design, development, test and launch of new features and products. You will own product and services related to capacity management. You will work with roles spanning engineering, science, analytics and product. A proven history of building and sustaining highly available services is critical. Responsibilities include direct management of software engineers, collaboration with business leaders, planning, and project management for software within the team. Successful candidates will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. As a technical leader, you should be able to translate business needs into technology solutions that scale both technically and operationally.

This space requires a high level of strategy, engagement, execution, and operations to evolve the ordering and fulfillment capabilities for the next decade. This team is critical to Amazon’s future success, and will provide great personal satisfaction and career development as we tackle some of the most intriguing network problems. The perfect candidate will thrive outside of defined role guidelines, strike balance between strategic and tactical success, elevate their subordinates, manage upwards, and communicate ideas in a concise and succinct manner.

High level responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

* Directly manage a group of software development engineer, hiring, promotion, performance assessments etc.
* Work closely with engineers to build large-scale, highly distributed systems solving complex problems for the Amazon supply chain business. Review both design specs and code and provide feedback to engineers to insist on highest standards in terms of system design and code quality.
* Partner with Product, Business and Peer Managers to identify new features that can bring substantial benefits for customers. Prioritize feature requests to maximize contributions to our goals while maintaining the right trade-off between addressing tactical needs versus investing in strategic solutions.
* Translate business requirements into engineering requirements to scope resource needs and manage multiple projects and dependencies effectively to deliver projects on schedule. Lead sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives to assign work, monitor progress, and collect feedback.
* Drive operations excellence by analyzing ticket root causes, defects, and technical debt and creating projects to reduce both short-term and long-term operational load.
